The Tennessean (6 June 2010)
By the time she graduated from Vanderbilt Divinity School in May 2009, the Rev. Kara Hildebrandt could translate a passage from the Greek New Testament with relative ease, write a sermon like a pro and pass her ordination exams with flying colors.   Read more here . . .

pda-logo-blueHaiti Response
PDA continues to respond in Haiti. The response in Haiti is still in the relatively early phase of emergency relief. The most effective way to respond is through financial support. PDA is not requesting material aid, other than the preparation of Gift of the Heart hygiene and baby kits, to replenish the supply after more than 35,000 kits have been directed to Haiti.

Volunteers are not requested at this time, but you may register your interest for if/when future opportunities arise.

You can give to the ongoing relief through PDA account number DR000064. As God’s people, we are asked to stand in the “GAP” - Give.  Act.  Pray.

Response to the earthquake in Chile
Reports as of Monday morning, March 1, 2010 list the death toll at more than 700, with a potential of more deaths as tsunamis hit coastal areas. Approximately 1.5 million homes have been destroyed.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is working with our ecumenical partner Church World Service (CWS) in Chile to provide basic humanitarian assistance and to help local partners in assessing the needs. One Great Hour of Sharing funds will be used for an initial response.

We pray for Haiti

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As the eyes of the world turn to Haiti, let us join our hearts in prayer:

God of compassion
please watch over the people of Haiti,
and weave out of these terrible happenings
wonders of goodness and grace.
Surround those who have been affected by tragedy
with a sense of your present love,
and hold them in faith.
Though they are lost in grief,
may they find you and be comforted.
Guide us as a church
to find ways of providing assistance
that heal wounds and provide hope.
Help us to remember that when one of your children suffers
we all suffer;
through Jesus Christ who was dead, but lives
and rules this world with you. Amen.
