First Presbyterian Church, Franklin is having a combined summer preaching series and reading program based on N. T. Wright’s book, After You Believe: Why Christian Character Matters.

First Presbyterian Church, Cookeville is hosting an art show, FPC Artists - Past & Present, through September 30.  The event is a joint effort of the church and Friends of the Cookeville Museum.

News and Fresh Ideas

One of the goals of a misson trip to Guatemala was to apply fluoirde to children’s teeth.  The 6 participating churches (Allardt, Eastminster, Hillsboro, Manchester First, Nashville Second, and Trinity) collected toothbrushes before the team went.

Stephen Nix of Hillsboro Presbyterian Church invited members of the faith community to take a leap of faith and let God lead them, rather than trying to lead themselves, on an upcoming mission trip to Zimbabwe.  This trip will offer a feeding program to aid starving families and provide assistance in medical/dental clinics.

The handbell choir of Hillwood Presbyterian Church had a “handbell polishing party” before starting rehearsals this fall.

On a summer mission trip to Birmingham, some of the youth from First Presbyterian Church, Nashville spent time not building, but doing demolishion work at a hospital.

Breakfast for Dinner will be one of the weekly Wednesday night supper menus at First Presbyterian Church, Murfreesboro.

A recent issue of the Eastminster Presbyterian Church newsletter featured an article in which a young church member described the role of God and the church in her recovery from addition.

Handwritten, personal notes are sent by volunteers to visitors at Decherd Presbyterian Church.

First Presbyterian Church, Franklin is seeking volunteers for “Better Decisions,” an 8-week program in which volunteers teach decision-making skills to inmates at the Tennessee Prison for Women.

At First Presbyterian Church, Pulaski, Wednesday night meals are provided by various church classes and groups on a rotating basis.

Three youth from First Presbyterian  Church, Shelbyville joined other Presbyterian middle schoolers for mission work at Mission Possible 5 in Atlanta, GA.

Westminster Presbyterian Church, Nashville is a Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) host site until the Middle Tennessee flood response is complete.  PDA will focus on long term recovery after the disaster, coordinating volunteers to repair and rebuild damaged areas for up to several  years.  The lower level of the church has been remodeled to accommodate up to 34 workers.  These volunteers will have access to fellowship hall to prepare meals.

August 27 - September 5   Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, Nashville - Zimbabwe.  Feeding program and medical/dental clinics.

October 9 - 16  First Presbyterian Church, Nashville partnering with Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, Chattanooga - Haiti*  Construction, medical, and worship.

November 6 - 13   First Presbyterian Church, Nashville - Dominican Republic*  For medical personnel to offer family practice medical, dental, and eyecare; non-medical volunteers are also needed to assist in registration of patients.
